Cigarette lighter novelty shaped as a cracker

(Prague, November 23, 2009), the Czech Trade Inspection Authority discovered that a product sold on the Czech market does not comply with safety regulations and poses danger mainly to small children. This product is a Cigarette lighter novelty shaped as a cracker.

The lighter resembles food item as it looks like two round-shaped dark coloured crackers (cocoa crackers), glued together with white cream. The lighter is equipped with a chain and circle so it may be hung as a trinket. Due to the product shape and design, it poses danger mainly to small children, who can easily confuse this product with food item. It also poses fire and burn injuries hazard.

This lighter does not comply with the necessary safety requirements applicable to lighters sold and introduced to markets. Unusually-shaped lighters are always considered dangerous and may not be sold on markets.

Due to the above-mentioned information, the CTIA banned this product or the series of these products from being introduced to market, said RNDr. Jana Příhodová, the General Director of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority.
