Control at the Šenovská burza in Ostrava

(Prague, November 19, 2010) On Sunday November 14, 2010, the Moravskoslezský and Olomoucký Inspectorate of the Czech Trade Inspection, in cooperation with the Customs Office and the Alien Police Ostrava, performed 21 controls in total on stalls with textile, shoes, general merchandise, clothing, soft furnishings, household appliances, toys, groceries and refreshments at the marketplace in the Šenovská Street in Ostrava.

Out of the 21 controlled stalls, infringements of laws were detected in 18 sellers, i.e. 85.7%. Among the most frequent infringements of the defined laws belonged: Not informing consumers in compliance with the pricing regulations about products’ prices in the sale offer; 5 sellers did not inform the consumer properly about the features of the sold products or did not mark the product with any information in Czech on care and maintenance; after consumer’s request, 4 sellers did not give out any receipt of purchase with all defined belongings; in 2 cases sellers used an uncertified measuring tool to weigh a purchase of control; other than that, information on producer or importer was missing; a seller did not provide the 24-months guaranty on a purchased product and in 1 case, 2 products (toys) were found that are filed in the RAPEX alert system.

 

Due to the mentioned deficiencies, in total 15 fines in the total amount of CZK 18,000 at the inspection location were issued and 2 sanctions in the total amount of CZK 1,500 were issued. Also, ban on subsequent sale of products in the total amount of CZK 15,160 until remedy was issued and ban on use of 2 measuring tools was issued. Last, but not least, in 2 cases the detected deficiencies gave grounds to administrative proceedings.
