On August 29, 2011, the Czech Trade Inspection Authority, namely its Středočeský and Prague Inspectorate, carried out a control at all marketplaces on the territory of the capital of Prague – in Lipence, River Side Marketplace in Holešovice, SAPA in Libuše, at marketplaces Na Knížecí, in Pankrác and in Tiskařská.
The control action was focused above all on fulfilment of sellers’ obligations defined by the Act on Consumer Protection, concretely on informing consumers about prices of goods and services, providing declared weight and amount, giving out bills of purchase and offering and selling fakes, i.e. products infringing some intellectual property rights. The range of examined goods was also larger than usually because the control concerned all provided assortment – groceries, vegetables and fruits, wines and drugstore goods (?), toys and textile products.
Three taxi cabs were examined in cooperation with the City of Prague Metropolitan Police and in two cases, infringements were found.
Offering and selling fakes was repeatedly detected at the marketplace Tiskařská and at the River Side Marketplace, but newly also at marketplace Na Knížecí and in Pankrác where no appearance of fakes was detected within previous controls. Fakes of toys were found in stalls at the Tiskařská marketplace. No products infringing some intellectual property rights were found at SAPA and in Lipence.
The group called TAXI of the Municipality Police participated in the control action the same as the special unit “CIZINEC 2” (“Foreigner 2”) of the Police of the Czech Republic in Prague and the Alien Police Department. Within the action – the same as in the previous years – it was conformed that such close cooperation with these police groups is beneficial and enables immediate use of knowledge of all participating bodies and helps reach controls’ maximal effectiveness.
