(Prague, September 24, 2009), the Czech Trade Inspection Authority performed an inspection event focusing on children´s strollers. This inspection has been based on received notification from the testing Institute Stiftung Warentest, a partnering German organization of Public consumer association, the TEST. CTIA representatives discussed this information with representatives of the internet portal www.babyweb.cz, which has been circulating among consumers and is relevant to the children´s goods, but mainly to strollers. The CTIA has been cooperating with this organization for a long time and this cooperation proved to be a beneficial to consumers, mainly to those who have children. The CTIA has collected several strollers sold on the Czech Market and performed the applicable testing and analysis. Thanks to the testing it has been established that the collected strollers did not comply with the applicable health standards.
The first defective product is the children´s stroller Quinny Speedi, Po No.5036024; 70301870, W3204AC900309 Colour Chilli, originally from Holland. Based on the testing performed by authorized persons, it has been established that the maximum allowed level of primary aromatic amines (Directive No. 84/2001 Coll. sets the limit to 0.05mg/l) was exceeded in both handles - the handle designed for the child (the obtained value was 0.15mg/l), as well as in the handle designed for the adult (the obtained value was 0.23mg/l). Primary aromatic amines are considered as carcinogenic chemicals of first category and therefore, elimination of such chemicals during the manufacture of products designed for children is well-justified.
The other defective product is children's´ stroller MAXI-COSI Mura, Goldne OAK, art. dle fa 68102270, EAN 8712930025634. The limit value of the maximum content of primary aromatic amines, as specified by the applicable health standards described in the Directive No. 84/2001 Coll., has been exceeded. This value has been exceeded in both handles. One handle designed for the child and the other handle designed for the adult (the same black plastic). The value obtained by measurement was 0.27 mg/l). The required value is 0.05mg/l.
Another product that failed the test is the children´s stroller COLLETO model AUSTIN 4. This product has defective structure. The bed of the stroller has an edge located near the baby´s head, with insufficient fillet radius. The edge is covered with a thin textile but this cover will bend inward if force of less than 1N is applied. Therefore this product does not comply with the ČSN EN 1888 safety standards.
Due to the defects described earlier, these products must be recalled from the market as soon as possible. If consumers have already purchased one of these products, we recommend bringing it back and claiming it as defective, as the applicable purchase contract has been violated.
"Due to the inspection results and due to the fact that these products are indeed defective, we will continue with inspections focusing on children strollers", said RNDr. Jana Příhodová, the General Director of the CTIA.
