An inspector ordered 3 pair of shoes from the offer – concretely leather trainers in the overall price of CZK 25,967. The seller confirmed the order and suggested a date of handing in the goods. Because the amount of money was quite high, the seller wanted to change it with the goods personally – in a car. With regard to this not very standard requirement, the inspectorate’s director asked the Police of the Czech Republic for assistance.
This step was very wise – after paying the goods at the meeting at the agreed place, it was found out that instead of the ordered Louis Vuitton originals fakes were purchased. The shoes were taken and the case was transferred to the Police of the Czech Republic to investigation due to the suspicion of crime commitment. The entrepreneur is in threat of launch of criminal prosecution or administrative proceedings at the CTIA where fine can be imposed up to the amount of 5 million CZK.
The e-shop immediately withdrew the fakes from its offer. However, the question is whether there won’t be any other trick or just a “change of the coat”; and still there is a doubt concerning the question how many internet shops offer expensive originals of branded products in the same way, but sell only fakes. The CTIA carries out further monitoring and controls of internet shops, but at the same time it warns consumers against so called “favourable” purchases, especially of new branded products. Unusual circumstances of payment or of goods delivery are one of the signals warning consumers before the purchase.
