International Film Festival Karlovy Vary 2010

(Prague, July 15, 2010) The Czech Trade Inspection supervised and controlled services at the International Film Festival Karlovy Vary. From the start of the festival, i.e. since Friday July 2, to Friday July 9, 2010, it performed 83 controls in restaurants, bars, hotels, fast refreshment stalls, gifts and souvenirs stalls and at taxi services.

Out of these 83 controls our inspectors found infringements of laws in 34 cases, i.e. 40.96 %. In 2009, infringements of laws were discovered in 28.16 % in the period of the festival.

In restaurants and similar alimentation facilities, in total 76 controls were performed, including 30 controls with findings, i.e. 39.47%. In restaurants, the declared amount of sold drinks which stood for harming the consumer in 4 to 78 CZK per drink and in one workplace even in 297 CZK when the total price was 1803 CZK, which means that the consumer paid 2100 CZK. Another irregularity was detected in pricing offered meals and drinks, the receipt did not contain all requirements and non-certified measures were used in the restaurants and so forth. For the mentioned deficiencies, 4 fines were issued in the total amount of 2500 CZK and 16 sanctions at the inspection location in the total amount of 22,000 CZK and 10 deficiencies will be resolved in administrative proceedings.

 

Within the activity, the inspectors focused also on hotels where 3 controls were performed out of which all had deficiencies, i.e. 100%. In the hotels, accommodation services were not priced in CZK, but only in EUR. All 3 cases will be resolved in administrative proceedings.

 

Also gifts and souvenirs stalls experienced a control. Out of 2 controls, in 1 case law infringement was detected in pricing offered products. This deficiency was resolved by issuing a fine of 1,000 CZK at the inspection location. The inspectors controlled also taxi services and within 2 controls, no law infringement was detected.

 

„Minor deficiencies were resolved by issuing fines and sanctions at the inspection location, the more severe ones (in this case, 13 deficiencies in total) will be resolved in administrative proceedings in which much higher sanctions will be issued,” said RNDr. Jana Příhodová, the Director General of the Czech Trade Inspection.
