Selling of fakes - February, March

(Prague, March 26, 2010) During February and March 2010 the Ústecký and Liberecký Inspectorate of the CTIA performed 11 controls on selling of fakes and imitations out of far-famed market places in border regions.

Fakes and imitations selling is being detected by the CTIA inspectors and by other state bodies also in “serious” branches in both big and small towns.

Out of these 11 controls, in 9 cases the seller was banned to sell and offer 397 pieces of products in the total amount of 596.089 CZK; these products were considered as fakes of trade-marks after expertise. The goods were confiscated by the CTIA inspectors.

Within the controls it was discovered that products of famous brands are sold for prices and in a quality not corresponding with the reality. For example scarves, cups and gloves marked with a trade-marks Chanel were offered for 35 CZK; despite the prices of original products of this brand are of thousands of crowns. These products were not made by the owner of the trade-mark nor were produced with his agreement. It is mostly non-quality goods far away from the quality from the originals.

After infringements of Consumer Protection Act, administrative procedures will start with the 9 entrepreneurs. Based on the results of these procedures, sanctions will be issued. After the verdict come into force, the goods will be liquidated on the sellers’ expanses. Products meeting the legal requirements, e.g. textile products after removing trade-marks, will be given to humanitarian purposes.
