Product labelling:
The product packaging states: British standard power plug adapter.
Manufacturer: Made in
Importer: MERKATOR, s.r.o.
Evaluation:
The inspected product, called British standard power plug adaptor, Model Cat170/5, MAX 5A 250V~, EAN 5018404001702, does not comply with the following safety and technical norms and standards ČSN IEC 60884-1:2003 + amendment 1:200, describing regulations relevant to fork design power plugs and power outlets for household or similar use - Part 1: General requirements and ČSN IEC 884-2-5:2005, describing regulations relevant to fork design power plugs and power outlets for household or similar use - Part 2: Special requirements for adapters. The above-mentioned product has these following deficiencies:
a) The product does not have applicable name, does not show the applicable trademark or manufacturer identification or identification of responsible seller/distributor, pursuant to requirement of technical standard ČSN IEC 884-2-5:2005 article 8.1.
b) The inspection showed that the plug measurements are smaller than required by the V CEE 7 norm. It is possible to insert the power fork with secure pin/contact into the outlet part of the adapter, but no connection with the applicable secure circuit will occur. The deviation from the required dimension does not represent an advantage, but negatively affects the safety and purpose of connected appliances, as described in the above norm, mainly because it does not comply with the interchange and compatibility requirements. Plus, it does not comply with the technical standard ČSN IEC 884-2-5:2005 article 9.3.
c) User may actually connect pin of the associated fork plug [the flat fork plug 2P-2,5A, 250V, as well as fork plug with safety contact 2P+PE or British Standard fork 5733 (BS 5733)] and the live contact of the plug adaptor (contact aperture of the plug), but the second fork pin (pin under current) may be touched by finger. It does not comply with the technical standard ČSN IEC 884-2-5:2005 article 10.3.
d) The adaptor plug has safety contacts but they are not designed properly. That means that they do not connect the safety circuit before the actual pins that lead the current become alive. It does not comply with the technical standard ČSN IEC 884-2-5:2005 article 11.1. Fork plug 2P+PE with safety contact may be inserted into the adapter plug, but the safety circuit is not connected at ll. Not even when the live pins of the outlet are connected with the live contacts of the adaptor. The safety circuit is connected only if British Standard 5733 (BS 5733) plug is used to connect appliance to the adaptor outlet. However, safety requirements relevant to risk of injury by electric shock, as described in article 10.3. are not complied with.
This product poses a danger of injuries by electric shock when alive or dead parts of the applicable electric equipment are touched during predictable use.
This product does not comply with applicable safety regulations pursuant to Rule No. 3, Item 5, letter a), Rule No. 102/2001 Coll., describing general product safety regulations, as later amended and therefore, this product is classified as dangerous pursuant to Rule No. 3 Item 7, of this law.
Applied measures:
All products present in the markets are banned from sale pursuant to Rule No. 7, Item 1, letter a), Rule No. 64/1986 Coll., the law of the Czech Trade Inspectorate, as later amended. Further, applicable corrective and protective measures in accordance with Rule No. 7, Item 2, letter g), and Rule No. 102/2001 Coll., describing product safety requirements, as amended have been issued.
