Think about your child's safety when choosing a baby-coach! (Continuous report of the second trimester)
(Prague, August, 2011) When choosing a new baby-coach, not only elegant design, but above all safety criteria should be considered by consumers. Results of a continuous control activity of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority can help in this respect. The objective of particular controls is to find out whether products are sold in the Czech market which could damage children’s health due to inconvenient mechanical and physical features, bad construction or insufficient or incorrect information on use of products. During the second trimester of 2011, failures to obligations defined by the Act on General Safety of Products were found in 7 cases out of 42 controls (16.6%). One of two taken baby-coaches failed examination.
All CTIA inspectorates participated in the control action and within 42 controls they found breaches of obligations defined by the Act No. 102/2001 Coll. on General Safety of Products in 7 cases (i.e. 16.6%). 2 samples of baby-coaches were taken to safety assessment.

Defects found and actions taken:
- Sale of products without any Czech manual
- Sale of products without any proper information about the product

In 2 cases, inspectors banned sale of 9 pieces of products in the total price of CZK 68,190 because of failures to information obligations and they imposed 2 orders at the spot in the total amount of CZK 4,000. Three controlled subjects were issued to remedy the found deficiencies in a deadline; administrative proceedings will be launched with other two subjects.

In two cases, samples were taken to safety assessment. One of the two taken baby-coaches failed requirements of the Act on General Safety of Products.

CTIA will carry out controls also in the following trimester because they examine products designed for users that can easily get injured, i.e. children. Controls’ results have proven that some sellers are still not responsible enough and do not meet legally defined obligations in terms of sale of such products.
