CTIA alerts: Children can suffocate when playing flutes
(Prague, January 19, 2012) As the controls carried out by the Czech Trade Inspection Authority have shown, there are still toys that are offered in the Czech market despite the risks they pose to the smallest users, i.e. to children. In Western Bohemia, inspectors of the CTIA found plastic and metal flutes that can damage children’s health or endanger their lives even when used in a common way. The flutes have no detailed marking and information and are so small that the child might choke when playing – as these toys are designed for oral use. (Prague, December 22, 2011) The same as in the previous years, this year’s inspection activity of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority concentrated on sale of traditional assortment in the pre-Christmas time. During this period, inspectors focused especially on various fairs, sale of Christmas trees, fish and pyrotechnics. They checked stalls and spots of sale of 377 sellers and found infringements of obligations in 92 cases, i.e. 25% of cases. They imposed 49 fines at the spot in the amount of CZK 68,500. Controls will continue until the end of the year.
Playing soldiers and cops can end up with injuries
(Prague, November 28, 2011) Do your children long for playing soldiers and policemen and thieves and you have bought them appropriate equipment? You should know that there are such toys that can hurt your children even when they use the products in a common and predictable way! The Czech Trade Inspection Authority found that three sets of products that pose risks mainly to children are offered in the internal market. These are the soldier sets named „Weapon Police“ and „Police Weapon Swat“ a also the police set named „Police Force Gun“. Within the control it was found that the missiles’ suckers are easy to separate, thus a situation may occur when after a child puts the missile in its mouth, the sucker will separate and block the respiratory system, so there is a danger of suffocation or swallowing the sucker. The CTIA banned selling of these dangerous sets and their distributor subsequently withdrew these products from the market.
CTIA alerts: Squeaky toys can be dangerous!
(Prague, November 21, 2011) Do you know what your children play with? You should regularly check whether any small part separated from toys when your kids played with them. There is a risk that a squeaky segment separates from a cute squeaky turtle accompanied with small turtles and can even cause suffocation. The Czech Trade Inspection Authority found that this product is available in the Czech market and it banned its sale. The distributor subsequently withdrew the product from the market.
Water toys contained phthalates! (Partial report of the third quarter of 2011)
(Prague, November 8, 2011) Summer ended, but people still can use water toys designed for swimming that contain phthalates as the controls carried out by the Czech Trade Inspection Authority proved. Within 90 controls, 8 products were selected for laboratory assessment because they were suspected to pose risks to children’s health due to their inconvenient mechanical and physical features. The suspicion has been proven to be true in 7 of the taken samples so far – they contained excessive amount of phthalates in the rate of 6.1% to 12.2% while the maximal allowed amount is 0.1%. Defects were found in totally 36 controlled subjects. Apart from bans of sale and actions taken to remedy, 16 fines in the total amount of CZK 18,000 were imposed; other administrative proceedings are still processed.
CTIA alerts: three-wheelers can injure children
(Prague, October 27, 2011) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority found that products that may pose risks to children’s health are offered in the Czech internal market. The two products (three-wheelers) come originally from Poland and are marked as Tříkolka Policja RF 1, EAN: 5903598000078, and Tříkolka Policja, EAN: 5 903263 999065. In both toys it was found that spaces between the three-wheeler’s bodies and turning forks are so narrow that it can be presumed that if a child put his fingers in there, it may get injured.
CTIA: Handgun missiles are not safe
(Prague, October 4, 2011) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority warns against several toys. Handguns with suction cups missiles can be dangerous to children. Concretely these products are: army set Laser Gun Super Power MU 1317 and 96 PC/CTN and two police sets marked as Police Gun Force Shoot Game MU 1314 480 PC/CTN and Police Weapon set, designed for children from 3 years of age.
Sliding Baby Carriage can hurt children
(Prague, October 3, 2011) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority alerts consumers that in the market there is a product posing a risk of injury to children. The car designed for the smallest children has unacceptable space between the car body and the front wheels when turning the steering wheel. In edge positions there is a threat of clenching or injuries of fingers. The CTIA banned selling of the product and its distributor subsequently withdrew the product from the market. 
Dangerous product - doll buggy
(Prague, September 30, 2011) Within an inspection in the internal market, CTIA inspectors found that in the Czech Republic a toy is offered which - due to its construction - poses a risk to children. An expert assessment confirmed that the doll buggy made in China is dangerous to children. The CTIA banned the sale of the product and its distributor subsequently withdrew the product from the market. The buggy carries the marking “No: 09699 „Baby car“ artikl: 131071 Vyrobeno v Číně - PENG HUI TOYS”.
Risky products: Wooden pull centipede
(Prague, June 2, 2011) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority found out that in the internal market a wooden toy is offered which poses a risk to children. It is a pull centipede. CTIA banned selling of the mentioned product and its distributor subsequently took action and withdrew the products from the market.
Controls of toys - water toys (Continuous report of the first trimester 2011)
(Prague, May 12, 2011) Technical of the CTIA General Inspectorate continuously evaluated results of the control activity focused on control of toys – water toys. These are especially inflatable toys designed for children in shoal water under sight of adults, just like swimming belts, various inflatable animals or boats that can carry children’s weight. Controls were carried out by all CTIA inspectorates and were focused especially on compliance with requirements of the Act on General Safety of Products (Act No. 102/2001 Coll.) and the Act on Technical Requirements on Products (Act No. 22/1997 Coll.). During the first trimester, 41 controls were carried out and infringements were found within 7 of them.
