The CTI banned children´s game HONEY LOVER JD 035 DTP0259 from sale

Prague, February 3, 2009 – this product was manufactured in China, but the manufacturer or importer do not appear on the product. Risk analysis revealed several deficiencies and it has been established that this product poses a serious danger for small children. The danger is mainly represented by suffocation or by injuries that may occur if ropes get stuck unexpectedly.

It is an electronic game including two colour trinkets. Product is packed in a laminated plastic box with a information pamphlet inside. This pamphlet contains this following information in Spanish language:


Product name: JD 035 SPANISH EDITION HECHO EN CHINA

CE symbol/logo

Symbol specifying age group is covered with self-adhesive sticker with EAN code, making the safety symbols unreadable. The above-mentioned sticker may not be removed without damaging the printed data.

 

Also safety warning “La electrificacion solo se aplica los adultos”- Power source may be handled by adults only is in  Spanish language. Product does not have this warning message in Czech language.

 

Manufacturer or importer: unknown

 

Thanks to the product character and its properties, this product clearly belongs to the toy category. Due to insufficient marking, specifying unsuitability for children of age under 3, it may be used by small children as well.

 

Evaluation:

The fact that the age group is not readable (as the sticker is placed over it) represents a danger that this game will be used by children under the age of 3, who may strangle themselves with the long rope (length more than 220 mm), which did not break apart even when force of 25?2 N was applied.

 

- the above mentioned product does not comply with requirements included in article 5.4., describing regulations relevant to ropes and lines used in toys ČSN EN 71-1 +A6:2008, Toy safety regulations. Physical and mechanical properties of item 5.4, describing regulations relevant to ropes and lines used in toys


- missing user’s manual violates regulations specified by Rule No. 11, item 1, Rule No.634/1992 Coll.,


- the fact that the age group specifications is covered by the self-adhesive sticker and therefore may not be read, violates regulations specified by Rule No. 9, Item 1, law No. 634/1992 Coll.


- the fact that the manufacturer or supplier name is missing, violates regulation included in Rule No. 10, Item 1, letter a), Rule No. 634/1992 Coll.


- all the above deficiencies violate basic regulations as described in appendix No. 2 Item I, NV No. 19/2003 Coll., describing toy technical requirements, as amended.

 

Conclusion:

Risk analysis revealed several deficiencies and it has been established that this product poses a serious danger to small children. The danger is represented by the risk of suffocation or injuries due to unexpected tightening of ropes or the zipper attached to the toy. Due to the low age group, as well as due to the inadequate level of maturity of such small children playing with this product and lastly due to the missing warning, specifying the age limitation, this product was declared as dangerous.
