Toy Inspections were performed throughout the entire year 2008 and above the planned scope of individual inspections. A total number of 4 276 inspections were performed in stores or branches selling these types of goods. Inspectors of the Czech Trade Inspectorate banned 91 501 toy from sale, in the total amount of CZK 7, 873, 593,-.
For example, the CTI determined that product sold under the name International Sport Car Power No. 28089, EAN: 6921380122141 is dangerous. After analysis and tests were performed, the toy was marked as dangerous product, because the printed circuit board did not comply with the applicable printed board requirements relevant to thermal standards and unusual activities. The printed board burn time, exceeded the allowed time by 15 seconds. Therefore, this toy poses a risk of burn injuries, as it may caught on fire and burn down.
Other product marked by the CTI as dangerous, is inflatable mattress “Barbie“ TM, EAN: 8412842502512, as this product failed to comply with requirements specifying the amounts of phthalic acid esters, described by the directive No. 2005/84/EC. A child may place this product in its mouth during play and even though health damage is very unlikely in this case, the risk is based on the fact that phthalic acids may accumulate in fatty tissues of the child and are not easily metabolized.
Due to the same reason, the CTI determined product specified as inflatable water toy – swimming ring duck QKU 16651, EAN: 8519989166512 dangerous as well. The foil of this product contains 23,0% di-(2-ethylhexyl)-phthalic acid and 0,517% diisononyl-phthalic acid and the inflatable valve contains 13,4% di-(2-ethylhexyl)- phthalic acid and 0,88% diisononyl-phthalic acid.
Further, the CTI discovered a dangerous product specified as telephone set No. 1204, A 09440, EAN: 8591452019440. This toy poses a risk to small children, as it may damage their hearing. The emission level of acoustic pressure created by toys that are placed near or attached to ears may not exceed 90dB. However, the obtained and measured value was 108,1dB.
