The goal of the inspection was to find out whether information providing requirements are observed during the sale of products such as candles, decorative items, etc. This information includes the description of use, dangers that my occur when used incorrectly and compliance with other relevant legal regulations, consumer protection law, the Czech Trade Inspection law and other applicable product safety laws.
Shortcomings or failures to comply with applicable laws were found in 7 cases, which represents 35% from all inspected sellers.
In 3 cases, the seller did not mark products (candles) with warning label in Czech language, describing the hazard if used incorrectly. In 2 cases, the seller did not inform the consumer about the offered product price at all. In 1 case, a purchase receipt missing all necessary information was issued, when asked by the consumer. In 2 cases, sellers used uncertified measuring equipment to measure the volume of goods. In 1 case, the seller did not mark his kiosk as required by the applicable law.
Products that did not comply with the necessary product regulations, were forbidden from use. These products represent value in the amount of CZK 6 853,-.
For failure to comply with the applicable consumer protection law, a total of 5 fines were issued, totalling CZK 4 500,- Kč. Two discovered shortcomings will be forwarded to the applicable court of law for further processing.
"Due to the discovered and constantly repeated shortcomings, inspections focusing on the same issues will be scheduled for the next year as well, " said RNDr. Jana Příhodová, the General Director of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority.
