Children bicycle AUTHOR Jet 12

(Prague, June 9, 2009) the Czech Trade Inspectorate discovered that a dangerous consumer product is being sold on the Czech market. This product represents a serious danger mainly for small children and will be reported into the international warning system RAPEX.

It is a children’s bicycle AUTHOR Jet 12“, which does not comply with applicable safety requirements. The inner part of the driving chain gear is not sufficiently covered. The diameter of handlebar ends does not comply with the minimum requirements (40 mm). The value obtained by measurement was only 32 mm. The bicycle is equipped with only one brake system (the rear wheel).

The bicycle frame is missing a visible and sturdy label, specifying the manufacturer name or the applicable distributor, or standard/code.

 

It is very likely that when riding this bicycle, clothing, shoe laces or fingers may get caught by the chain, because the chain is not properly covered. Also insufficient rims on the ends of the handlebar make cause hands of the rider to slip out. This may also cause a fall of the rider. Therefore, this product represents a real danger during common use.

 

The CTI prohibited sale of the above-mention product and the distributor accepted applicable measures and recalled this product from the market.
