Controls on fakes - January 2010
(Prague, February 22, 2010) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority in January 2010 performed controls focused on offering and selling goods infringing various intellectual property rights. All inspectorates on the Czech Trade Inspection Authority participated in the controls. The controls took place in marketplaces, marketplaces in border regions and on the premises.

Also members of the Police of the Czech Republic took their part the same as members of the Alien Police and the Customs Office. 119 controls were performed in total aimed at offering and selling of fakes, on 19 of the premises were confiscated 4.263 pieces of products infringing intellectual property rights in the total value of 13.658.062 CZK.

These were textile products, watches, jewellery, lather fancy goods, audio and video records, sports products and accessories. The confiscated forgeries were in the majority labelled with trade-marks Puma, Adidas, Nike, Luis Vuitton, Diesel, Lacoste, Replay.

The worst results, meaning the highest number of detected and confiscated fakes, had the Jihomoravský and Zlínský Inspectorate of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority. Its inspectors confiscated 1927 fakes in the total value of 2.277.382 CZK. The Prague and Středočeský Inspectorate performed controls in the SAPA Marketplace, Tiskařská and the marketplace River Town in Prague-Holešovice. This inspectorate confiscated 510 fakes in the total value of 11.311.680 CZK.

On the contrary, the best results were seen by the Jihočeský and Vysočina Inspectorate and the Královéhradecký and Pardubický of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority. Their controls were performed on the premises and stands where fakes might appear, where stands are not signed and where there is a risk of other infringements of the Act on consumer protection and other respective laws. Offering and selling of fakes was not detected.

“In January 15 administrative decision came into force. The value of the fines is 369.00 CZK. Considering the amount of detected and confiscated fakes the Czech Trade Inspection Authority will continue its controls,” said RNDr. Jana Příhodová, the director general of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority.
