Credit contracts and credit offers do not comply with laws (partial report - first trimester 2011)
(Prague, August 23, 2011) The new Consumer Credit Act making creditor’s obligations more restrictive and introducing obligations of consumer credit intermediaries has been in effect since January 1, 2011, but some seem not to have noticed it. Consumers enable creditors and intermediaries to do so, too, trustfully entering unfavourable contracts concerning “expensive money” despite such contracts are not easy to opt out without significant financial loses. Inspectors found this within control actions taken at non-banking subjects during the first half-year of 2011. Almost half of the checked creditors and intermediaries breached their legal obligations towards consumers. 69 infringements were found within 131 controls. 56 fines in the total amount of CZK 629,000 were imposed; other fines will be imposed in administrative proceedings.
