Flora Olomouc - paradise for lovers of flowers and for unfair sellers
(May 5, 2011, Olomouc) International gardening exhibition and fair FLORA OLOMOUC attracted uncountable number of visitors among who CTIA inspectors perfectly ‘lost’ during the past weekend. They hid their identity until they checked which sellers are not interested in legally defined obligations. They controlled the level of provided services at 21 sellers and found deficiencies in 12 cases (i.e. 57.1%).
Infringements of obligations found at the sellers:

They did not inform the consumer properly about the prices of products sold
They did not provide information about products to the consumer in Czech
They did not give out any bill of products purchase with all required information after consumer’s demand
They did not provide a declared amount of a drink
To weigh a purchase of control, they used weighs without any valid certification
They offered dangerous products – lighters of unusual type, so called Novelty (17 pieces)
Infringements of ban on use of unfair commercial practices by provision of untrue information

Actions taken:
Ban on use of 5 pieces of uncertified measuring tools until remedy
Ban on further sale of 215 pieces of products not conforming with requirements of special laws in the total amount of CZK 18,660 until remedy
10 fines were imposed at the spot in the total amount of CZK 17,200 for breaches of the Act on Consumer Protection
Administrative proceedings will be launched with 2 controlled persons

Conclusion:
The high rate of detected breaches at the traditional international fair Flora Olomouc showed that this event has become a welcomed opportunity for sellers who do not care so much about meeting obligations defined by laws and who the more gain from visitors’ interest in exhibits. This is why the appropriate CTIA inspectorate will carry out extraordinary control actions at similar opportunities in the future.
