Inspection of sporting events (soccer, ice hockey)

(Prague November 9, 2009), the Czech Trade Inspection Authority - the Moravskoslezký and Olomoucký Inspectorate performed between October 17, 2009 and November 4, 2009 inspections of business entities selling tickets for sporting events held at sporting arenas and in the nearby vicinity.

The goal of the inspection was to find out whether guest team fans are discriminated and whether applicable consumer protection rules and the Czech Trade inspection laws are observed during ticket sales.

Ticket sale inspections have been performed between October 17, 2009 and November 4, 2009, at these locations:

3 soccer league matches

2 first ice hockey league matches

1 extra league ice hockey match

No discrimination of guest fans has been discovered during ticket sales. The ticket prices were clearly listed in a pricelist posted at the sale location, showing the seating chart, including seats covered by roof and seats outside. Discounted sections were clearly marked. Tickets were on sale until all tickets were sold out. The same fair conditions applied to all fans, as well as to ticket sales posted on Internet pages of the event-organizing companies.

During the inspection, 6 other service-providing establishments were inspected (4 restaurants, 1 sporting goods kiosk and 1 food selling store). Discrepancies were discovered in four cases (3 restaurants and 1 kiosk).

In 2 cases, the seller did not comply with the required volume amount, 1 seller weighted goods with uncertified measuring equipment and 2 sellers did not have their stores marked according to the necessary requirements.

Issued corrective measures:

-  non-certified measuring apparatus was banned from future use.

- 4 cases of seller failures to comply with the necessary regulations will be forwarded to the applicable court of law for further processing.

"Even though the inspection event did not reveal any discrimination against consumers, these inspections focusing on the same issues will be scheduled for the future as well," said RNDr. Jana Příhodová, the General Director of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority.
