Inspection report focusing on the sale of counterfeited products, performed during July 2009

(Prague, August 14, 2009).  During the month of July,  the CTIA inspectors performed inspection of markets, buy and sell affairs, as well as regular stores, focusing on intellectual properties rights violations.

A total number of 132 inspections focusing on the offer and sale of counterfeited products have been performed. Inspections performed at 28 stores revealed that 1,403,- products, totalling CZK 4.656.870,-. violated some regulations of the intellectual property law. In 25 cases, the CTIA inspectors were still not able to identify the inspected persons.

39 legal proceedings took legal effect during the month of July, from which 22 legal proceedings were conducted against unknown persons. The total amount of all fines issued in connection with all legal proceedings equals to CZK 96.000,-.

“The existence of counterfeited products is continuously monitored. Even after repeated inspections of buy and sell affairs and markets, sellers are still offering and selling counterfeited products but they are more careful and display less goods”, said RNDr. Jana Příhodová, the General Director of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority and added: “A common practice is that sellers have their own guards placed around the access roads and if they see a suspicious person they notify the sellers immediately”.
