Observing and monitoring fuel quality in February 2011

(Prague, March16, 2011) In February 2011, the Czech Trade Inspection performed another regular control of fuel quality. Of the total number of 173 samples taken in February 2011, 10 samples did not meet quality standards’ requirements, i.e. 5.8%.

CONTROL’S OBJECTIVE:

Observing and monitoring of fuel quality on the territory of the Czech Republic in accordance with the statue of the section 7, par. 2a of the law No. 311/2006 Coll., the Fuel Regulations, and notice No. 133/2010 Coll.

SUBJECTS TO CONTROL:

Filling stations on the territory of the Czech Republic.

OBJECT OF THE CONTROL:

Taking fuel samples (motor petrol, motor oil, mixed fuel, bio fuel, LPG, CNG and Ethanol E85) and testing their quality. The CTI checked compliance with the rule No. 3 item 1 of the law No. 311/2006 Coll., the Fuel Regulations.

CONTROL RESULTS:

Of total 173 samples taken in January 2011, there were 10 samples that failed the requirements, i.e. 5.8%.

In February, defects were found in samples of motor petrol, motor oil, Ethanol E85, mixed fuel SMN 30 and Fatty acid methyl ester (FAME).

-       Of 65 tested motor petrol samples, 1 sample failed (1.5%); defect was found in quality parameters distilled content at 100°C and end of distillation.

-       Of 77 motor oil samples, 4 failed (5.%). In all the unsatisfactory samples, deviation in flash point was detected.

-       Defect in flash point was detected in 2 mixed fuel SMN 30 samples (40%), as well. 5 samples were taken.

-       Of 2 fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) samples, 1 sample was defective due to flash point.

-       All 15 taken samples of LPG and 2 samples of compressed natural gas (CNG) did not meet the particular quality standard’s requirements.

-       2 of 7 taken Ethanol E85 samples (i.e. 28.6%) did not meet the requirements for the quality parameter vapour pressure.

-       Violation of the upper acceptable level of bio ingredients in fuels was not detected

Analysis of the taken samples showed deviations from quality standards in 4 motor oil samples, 1 motor petrol sample, 2 mixed fuel SMN 30 samples, 2 E85 samples and 1 fatty acid methyl ester sample. In total, 10 unsatisfactory samples (5.8%) were found among the 173 tested samples.

On the grounds of an extraordinary control where a mobile laboratory was used, the CTI issued a ban on sale of unsatisfactory motor oil at one filling station until remedy.
