Observing and monitoring of fuel quality (May 2011)
(Prague, June 17, 2011) In May, CTIA inspectors took 221 fuel samples at filling stations on the territory of the Czech Republic. 10 samples, i.e. 4,5%, failed requirements of appropriate standards. Out of the total number of samples, 20 were examined in a mobile laboratory. On the grounds of its analysis, ban on sale of motor oil and motor petrol was issued until remedy at one filling station.
Object and results of control:
Samples of motor petrol, motor oil, mixed fuel, bio fuel (organic fuel), LPG, CNG and Ethanol E85 were taken to quality examination. Abidance with statue on fuels was checked (section 3 par. 1 of the Act No. 311/2006 Coll.).

Out of the total number of 221 samples taken in May 2011, 10 samples did not meet quality standards’ requirements, i.e. 4,5%.

In May, defects were detected in samples of motor petrol, motor oil, mixed motor oil, fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) and Ethanol E85.

Out of 101 checked samples of motor petrol, 1 sample failed (1.0%) as defects were found in quality parameters distilled content at 100°C, ethanol content and oxygen content by calculation.

Out of 93 controlled motor oil samples, 6 samples did not meet requirements (6.5%). In 5 of them deviation in flash point was detected and 1 sample did not meet requirements of quality parameters density and FAME content.

Out of 3 taken samples of fatty acid methyl ester, 1 sample (33.3%) did not meet quality standards’ requirements concerning flash point.

Out of 6 samples of mixed motor oil, 1 sample (16.7%) failed in flash point, too.

One of two taken Ethanol E85 samples (i.e. 50%) did not meet quality parameters requirements – ethanol content and higher alcohols and motor petrol content.

In May, violation of upper acceptable level of bio ingredients was detected in 1 sample of motor petrol. The found maximal ethanol content in motor petrol is 59% of content. The upper acceptable level in motor oil was not violated.

Conclusion:
In May, laboratory analysis showed deviations from quality standards in 10 samples (i.e. 4,5% of taken fuels) – 6 motor oils samples, 1 motor petrol sample, 1 Ethanol E85 sample, 1 sample of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) and 1 mixed motor oil sample.

All 15 LPG samples and 1 compressed natural gas sample met requirements of the particular quality standard.

Out of the total number of 221 samples, 20 were examined in a mobile laboratory. Ban was issued on sale of motor oil and motor petrol at 1 filling station.

Results according to fuel types, including the detected nonconforming criteria, are shown in the attachments.
