State - wide control activity - RAILWAY STATIONS

(Prague, November 3, 2010) On October 27, 2010, the Czech Trade Inspection performed a state-wide extraordinary control activity focused on the level of provision of services and sale of goods during the peak time in workplaces located at railway stations.

The objective of the control was to check whether applicable legislation is infringed during sale of products and provision of services. In the frame of the extraordinary state-wide control activity 96 controls in total were performed on October 27, 2010, when increased tourist traffic was expected. The objects to control were tobacco stalls, general merchandise, restaurants, refreshments stalls, hair dresser’s and so forth. Infringements of laws were detected in 32 cases in total, i.e. 33.7%.

 

Among the most frequent infringements was not keeping the declared amount of drinks and weight of meals; overpricing of the purchase of controls (in one case the overpricing concerned CZK 11 and in the second case CZK 50); sold products were not marked with defined information; not informing the consumer about the prices of the products sold in compliance with pricing regulations; 1 seller did not provide guaranty of 24 months on a product purchased; 1 seller did not inform the consumer about the amount of money for the buy-out of returnable packages. Among other infringements belonged not giving out receipt of products purchase with all defined information after consumer’s demand; using non-certified measure; selling a piece of cigarette from an opened unitary package and offering a dangerous product filed in the RAPEX search system and offering a product dangerous due to its interchangeability with groceries.

 

For the detected infringements, in total 17 fines were issued at the inspection location in the amount of CZK 17,500. In 16 cases, the detected deficiencies are subject to administrative proceedings. Furthermore, ban on using 6 pieces of uncertified measures was issued; ban was issues on sale of 203 pieces of products not complying with special laws in the total amount of CZK 3,959 until remedy.

 

“With regard to the extent of the detected deficiencies, controls with the same focus will be subsequently included operatively in the control activities’ schedule,” said RNDr. Jana Příhodová, the Director General of the Czech Trade Inspection.
