The CTI tested recreational vessels

(Prague March 13, 2009), the Czech Trade Inspectorate performed an inspection focusing on recreational vessels – inflatable boats, kayaks and canoes, sold on the domestic market.

The purpose of this inspection was to determine, whether recreational vessels sold on the domestic market comply with the Rule No. 102/2001 Coll., the General product safety and with the Rule No. 22/1997 Coll., describing product technical requirements and with Government directive No. 174/2005 Coll., specifying technical requirements applicable to recreational vessels and also requirements for partially manufactured recreational vessels, as well as their selected parts. The technical inspectors of the CTI inspected 26 subjects in total.

The inspected product called - kayak “Pyranha“, distributed by Vodák sport s.r.o., revealed shortcomings in the user’s manual. The user’s manual did not include basic vessel information such as maximum number of persons allowed on board and the vessel load/tonnage specifications.

Inflatable boat Neva III, type 65008, imported by Kastner + Őhler s.r.o., did not have the required repair kit and inflation pump. Also the user’s manual revealed several shortcomings.

Product Kajak SET 279 cm, Wave Line, had the applicable user’s manual but not in Czech language.

Based on the findings and discoveries, the CTI announces that most of the discovered shortcomings and deficiencies were relevant to user’s manuals, supplied with the vessels, which did not provide the user with the applicable information how to use the vessel in Czech language.
