Warning against use of GSM Locator service
(Prague, August 10, 2011) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority joins the warning published by the Czech Telecommunication Office against consumer use of GSM Locator service. The service is offered on the webpage http://gsmlocator.net/ and its goal is to get from consumers money in the form of paid premium SMS messages.
On the grounds of consumer notifications and media information, the Czech Telecommunication Office checked provision of the GSM Locator service that was offered on the web page http://gsmlocator.net/ and was designed to search people by their mobile phone number.

Detailed examination of the service carried out by the Czech Telecommunication Office showed that the GSM Locator service was offered only with one goal – to get from consumers money in the form of paid premium SMS messages.

At present, the Czech Telecommunication Office examines establishing and using the service and in this matter it contacted all mobile operators in the Czech Republic, appropriate technical administrator of this service in the Czech Republic (aggregator) as well as the Association of the Public Telecommunications Network Operators who is in charge of assigning short codes for provision of premium SMS and MMS messages. The Office will publish a press release on results of the investigation.
