Control of used goods shops
(Prague, March 16, 2010) In the time period between January 1st and 28th February 2010 the Moravskoslezský and Olomoucký Inspectorate of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority performed a control in shops offering used goods (bazaars, pawnshops and second-hand shops).

The objective of the controls was to check whether applicable laws describing running bazaars, pawnshops and second-hand shops is infringed or not. In total 24 controls were performed in the Moravskoslezský and Olomoucký region and in some cases the inspectors cooperated with the Police of the Czech Republic and Trade Licensing Offices. Deficiencies were found in 17 cases, i.e. in 70, 8 %.

 

In 13 cases the shopping assistant did not give out the bill on purchased goods with legally required data; 4 shopping assistants did not inform the consumer on the right to claim defects of the bought product, 3 shopping assistants did not keep a record of the purchase and acceptance of the pawned goods; 2 shopping assistants did not inform the customers about the offered products’ prices in any way; in 2 cases the traders did not sell the used products separately from other products and 1 shopping assistant did not meet the requirements of the applicable legislation when buying out golden jewellery.

 

As a result of infringements of the Consumer Protection Act in total 8 fines were issued in the total amount of 9.000 CZK. Detected deficiencies, in 9 cases, will be subjects to administrative proceedings. In 3 cases the deficiencies were transferred to the particular Trade Licensing Office and in 1 case to the Assay Office.

 

With regard to the persisting deficiencies’ appearance, controls in this particular field will continue in the same rate also in the following period,” said RNDr. Jana Příhodová, the Director General of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority.
