Control of water toys (partial report - second trimester)
(Prague, August 15, 2011) This summer has not been very nice to fans of water sports in the Czech Republic. However, the weather did not influence the planned activities of the CTIA focused on the assortment of water toys, including various types of inflatable animals, but also children’s boats, classical swimming rings, air mattresses and so forth. Within 90 controls, inspectors found infringements of obligations concerning safety of these products in 28 cases (31.1%), banned sale of 354 pieces of toys and issued other measures to remedy.
Inspectors controlled safety criteria, above all abidance with requirements of the Act on General Safety of Products (Act No. 102/2001 Coll.) and the Act of Technical Requirements for Products (Act No. 22/1997 Coll.). Inspectors checked tens of various types of inflatable products – aquatic animals just like a fish, dolphin, crocodile, frog or turtle, but also a goose, duck, giraffe, elephant, rabbit, swan or dragon, water vehicles, inflatable circles both classic and improved in various ways, e.g. with a seat, inflatable scooter, boat or air mattresses of various colours and shapes.

The objective was to check whether in the Czech Republic products are sold that could damage children’s health with regard to unsuitable mechanical and physical features of these toys, their bad construction or as a consequence of insufficient or incorrect warnings and other information required to fulfil basic safety requirements. All CTIA inspectorates took part in the action of the second trimester in which 90 controls were carried out.
