Control on for fire detection products

(Prague, September 29, 2010) The Czech Trade Inspection performed a control on fire detection products – fire detectors. The objective was to find out what is the state of the supervised products (fire detectors) offered in the sales network and whether the controlled products meet requirements for being introduced to the market.

Within the summer months of 2010 in total 8 controls were performed and deficiencies were detected in 4 of the cases (50%).

The object to controls were fire detection products, especially products such as fire detectors, flame detectors, button detectors, air sampling detector systems and autonomous smoke detectors.

During the first phase, investigations were performed at 5 distributors and 3 importers. In total 12 types of fire detectors were checked and deficiencies were detected in 7 types of detectors.

Among the most frequent deficiencies were not providing information on sold products’ characteristics, way of use and danger resulting from incorrect use; furthermore, not providing this information in the Czech language and distribution of the particular products – fire detectors marked with the CE mark in contradiction with law.

Due to the mentioned laws bans on introducing 4 types of fire detectors to the market were issued. The total price of the banned detectors was CZK 122,395 in this case. Also as to time limited measure to abolish the detected deficiencies was issued and in 3 cases the detected deficiencies were resolved in administrative proceedings.
