Observing and monitoring of fuels quality in July 2010

(Prague, August 17, 2010) In July 2010, the Czech Trade Inspection performed a regular control of fuels quality. Out of the total number of 149 samples collected in July 2010, 17 samples did not meet quality standards requirements, i.e. 11.4%.

CONTROL’S OBJECTIVE:

Observing and monitoring of fuels’ quality on the territory of the Czech Republic in accordance with the statue of the section 7, par. 2a of the law No. 311/2006 Coll., the Fuel Regulations, and notice No. 133/2010 Coll.

SUBJECTS TO CONTROL:

Fuel stations on the territory of the Czech Republic.

OBJECT OF THE CONTROL:

Collecting samples of fuels (motor petrol, motor oil, mixed fuels and LPG) and controlling their quality. The CTI checked abiding of rule No. 3 item 1 of the law No. 311/2006 Coll., the Fuel Regulations.

CONTROL RESULTS:

Out of total 149 samples collected in July 2010 there were 17 samples that did not meet the requirements, i.e. 11.4%.

In July, defects were found in motor petrol, motor oil and FAME samples. Out of 60 controlled samples of motor petrol, 3 samples (5.0%) did not meet the particular quality standard requirements. Defects were found in the content of ethanol, oxygen, sulphur and vapour pressure. These quality parameters were unsatisfactory in 1 case.

Out of 72 motor oil samples, 13 samples did not meet requirements (18.1%). In 11 samples (15.3%), deviation in flash point was detected. In 1 sample (1.4%), defect was detected in sulphur content and in quality indicator “distillation test” (“95% distillates in temperature”).

15 collected samples of LPG met the quality standard requirements.

In July, 1 sample of bio motor oil was collected that did not meet requirements in contents of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME).

The chart, in the attached file No 1, shows results according to the kinds of fuels type, including detected unsatisfactory criteria.

Overall data on fuel stations with detected defects in July 2010 are shown in the attachment No 2 which also contains values of the unsatisfactory quality indicators.

In July violation was found of upper acceptable limit of bio ingredients in the fuels; it was in 1 motor petrol sample. The maximal content of ethanol in motor petrol is 15.7% of content. In motor oil, the upper acceptable limit was not violated.

Analysis of the collected samples showed deviations from quality standards in 13 samples of motor oils, 3 samples of motor petrol and in 1 bio motor oil sample. In July, 11.4% of samples were unsatisfactory.
