Svatá Kateřina Marketplace

(Prague, October 13, 2010) On Sunday October 13, 2010, the Plzeňský and Karlovarský Inspectorate of the Czech Trade Inspection performed control activities in cooperation with customs officers and Alien Police at the Svatá Kateřina Marketplace.

With regard to the fact that the most frequent customers at marketplaces are citizens of Germany and this particular day was their national holiday, just this day was chosen on purpose for the control. Another reason was also the fact that within a weekend there is a higher chance for a successful control, especially at this marketplace where stalls are being closed in advance, at latest at the time of our inspectors’ arrival. Customs officers and the Alien Police have the same experience.

At the marketplace, our inspectors detected fakes in two stalls (e.g. Adidas bags, Rolex watches) in the total number of 111 pieces and in the total value of CZK 2,180,000. Also customs officers were successful; they confiscated textile products in the value of about 1 million crowns. A positive side of this control was the fact that we managed to detect sellers in these stalls.

Both sellers will be issued high sanctions in administrative proceedings. Except for this, in other two stalls we controlled abidance with obligations provided by the Act on Consumer Protection and for detected deficiencies in pricing of goods and other information obligations fines were issued at the inspection location in the total amount of CZK 6,000.

Agreement with customs officers and Alien Police was made that due to the results of the control activity, other controls will be organized (except for those already planned in the schedule of common controls) in a broader extent on weekends and for sure always in the days of German state holidays.
