Some retailers still block European consumers’ purchases

(Prague, 29 December 2021) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority has inspected the compliance of traders with the obligations arising from the Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council, which addresses unjustified geographical blocking and other forms of discrimination based on nationality, place of residence or place of establishment of customers within the internal market. CTIA carried out a total of 15 inspections and found breaches of this Regulation in 2 cases.

Stay watchful hen shopping online

(Prague, 17 December 2021) The approaching holidays and the threat of COVID-19 disease cause that consumers will be shopping online more often. At the end of the year, the CTIA deals with 40 to 50 complaints, enquiries or consumer submissions relating to e-shops every day. The vast majority of dissatisfied consumers complain about so-called "shopping galleries", long delivery times of months, or non-delivery of goods. Consumers from Slovakia also face this problem, according to the European Consumer Centre operating by the CTIA.

Act on prohibition of sales not applicable on 24 and 25 December

(Prague, 16 December 2021) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority responds to questions from the media, entrepreneurs and consumers and explains that this year, the act on retail sales hours will not apply on Christmas Eve and 25 December. Therefore, the CTIA will not carry out any inspections on sales in premises larger than 200 m² on those days, however, traders are obliged to comply with the applicable anti-epidemic measures.

The sale of alcoholic beverages to minors was confirmed in three out of five inspections

(Prague, 14 December 2021) In the third quarter of 2021, the Czech Trade Inspection Authority inspected the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products to persons under the age of 18. It also investigated whether traders comply with the Act on Excise Duties, Act on the Mandatory Labelling of Spirits, and the Consumer Protection Act. Inspection of compliance with the fairness of sales in shops selling so-called “luxury cheeses”

(Ostrava, 13 December 2021) From 18 October to 30 November, employees of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority, Moravsko-slezský and Olomoucký Inspectorates, carried out an inspection of specialised shops selling cheese, cheese specialities and delicatessen products. Energy brokers keep using unfair practices

(Prague, 7 December 2021) In the third quarter of this year, the Czech Trade Inspection Authority inspected the offer and provision of services related to the conclusion of energy supply contracts. It carried out a total of 2 inspections and in both cases found violations of certain provisions of the Consumer Protection Act.

CTIA saw breaches of the ban on the sale of alcohol to minors

(Prague, 6 December 2021) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority (CTI) took part in a joint extraordinary inspection action aimed at compliance with the ban on the offer, sale, serving and consumption of alcoholic beverages to persons under 18 years of age. During the six days, in cooperation with the Police of the Czech Republic and other surveillance authorities, the CTIA carried out a total of 108 inspections and found violations of law in 50 cases.
