Almost 90% of inspected energy intermediaries abused consumer trust

(Prague, 13 March 2023) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority (CTIA) evaluated inspections focused on energy supply contract intermediaries. It carried out 15 inspections during 2022 and found violations of the Consumer Protection Act in 13 inspections, which is almost 90% of the cases. Traders most often used deceptive practices, unfair commercial practices or failed to inform consumers about the possibility of making a complaint. As of 1 July 2022, the scope of the surveillance authorities’ inspections of energy supply contract intermediaries changed. Surveillance of intermediaries listed in the Register of Intermediaries is now carried out by the Energy Regulatory Authority.
