Consumer discrimination

(Continuous report of 1st half of 2014)

(Prague, September 19, 2014) Despite CTIA inspectors don’t face discriminative conducts often, almost twenty cases in which they proved any form of consumer discrimination were the reason for continuation of the inspection action in the previous half-year. CTIA inspectors with language skills as well as Gipsy inspectors have played major part in proving discriminative conduct. “Discriminative conduct against foreign visitors is a permanent problem. Some vendors charge so called service fees or use double prices. They spoil good reputation of fair entrepreneurs and the Czech Republic. Discrimination of consumers of Gipsy origin also shows low level of tolerance in certain places. For this reason it is necessary that we continue in such inspections,” said Mojmír Bezecný, the Director General of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority.
