(Interim report of 1st quarter of 2015)
(Prague, June 30, 2015) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority inspects compliance with the prohibition to use unfair commercial practices within offer and sale of goods and provision of services that infringe certain intellectual property rights based on submissions from owners of intellectual property rights, inspectors’ knowledge or submissions from consumers. Besides sale of counterfeits and copies, these inspections uncover other shortcomings as well. In the 1st quarter of 2015, inspectors proved breaches of certain intellectual property rights within 69 of 436 inspections (15.8%). However, the total ratio of findings reached two thirds of all cases. 1,832 pieces of counterfeits amounting to almost 3.6 million when calculated in prices of originals were collected and stored out of reach of inspected persons. 338 fines amounting to 2.4 million CZK were lawfully imposed in the evaluated period.
