One third of checked vendors offered fakes

(Partial report of the first quarter of 2013)

(Prague, June 11, 2013) Consumers are still interested in buying products whose manufacturers and sellers benefit from famous names of owners of intellectual property rights, original designs, and illegal copies of both audio and video media. The market satisfies their demands despite surveillance authorities confiscate such products and repeatedly apply sanctions related to their offer and storage. Results of the inspections carried out by the Czech trade Inspection Authority in the first quarter of 2013 proved that the offer of such products is rich. “Within 455 inspections, sale of fakes was detected in one third of cases and inspectors found frequent breaches of other legal regulations in another third of cases. They mainly confiscated fakes labelled with the trademark Pokémon, products copying Burberry patterns and accessories of Louis Vuitton. The highest number of the confiscated counterfeits related to the products of the Czech company Bateria,” the Director General of the CTIA Vladimír Velčovský summarized.
