Tobacco – 2Q of 2016

(Continuous report of 2nd quarter of 2016)

(Prague, October 10, 2016) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority monitors compliance with the Act on Excise Duties aiming at for example tobacco products. Excise duties are used in the Czech Republic from January 1, 1993, and relate to selected products such as mineral oils, spirits, beer, wine and intermediates, including tobacco products. In the 2nd quarter of 2016, the Czech Trade Inspection Authority detected violence of this law in 10 cases. These flaws namely related to misconducts concerning sale of tobacco products – CTIA detected prices that were different from prices indicated on tobacco stamps, sale of cigarettes in undamaged packages, sale of cigarettes connected with sale of different products as well as sale of unlabelled cigarettes. The aim of this action was also to inspect compliance with other legal regulations and violations of laws were discovered in 50% of cases.
