Violations of law found in 59% of bazaars and pawnshops

(Prague, November 19, 2019) Bazaars and pawnshops are a frequent target to consumers who want to buy or sell used goods for various reasons. In the period from April 15, 2019, to September 30, 2019, the Czech Trade Inspection Authority carried out an inspection aimed at fulfilling the obligations arising to operators of bazaars, pawnshops, antiques and auction houses pursuant to the Act No. 634/1992 Coll. on Consumer Protection, Act No. 253/2008 Coll., on Selected Measures against Legitimisation of Proceeds of Crime and Financing of Terrorism, Act No. 247/2006 Coll., on Restrictions of Night Operations of Pawnshops and other Establishments, and other generally binding legal regulations within the surveillance scope of the CTIA. Inspections were carried out at 179 operators and in 105 cases violations of law were proven (i.e. almost 59%). 103 fines totally amounting to CZK 239,500 were lawfully imposed.
