Sins of tour operators and travel agencies: claims and prices

(Partial report of 2nd quarter of 2014)

(Prague, August 4, 2014) Inspections of services provided by tour operators and travel agencies were significantly worse in the 2nd quarter of 2014 than in the 1st quarter. CTIA inspectors detected breaches of obligations stipulated in legal regulations in 27 of 71 inspections, i.e. 38%. Bad consumer news is that the ratio of findings increased by 12% when compared to the previous period. One third of breaches concerned claims, including especially insufficient or deceitful information about consumer rights as well as claims procedures. In other cases inspectors detected use of unfair commercial practices, failure to inform consumer about prices as well as violations of the Act on Certain Conditions of Business Activities in the Field of Tourism. Within the evaluated period, 14 fines amounting to 479.500 CZK were imposed while other administrative proceedings have not ended, yet.
